CITTASLOW - Goolwa becomes the first Australian Cittaslow


From Sunday 11 March 2007 to Wednesday 14 March, a Delegation representing the International Cittaslow organisation visited the historic River Port of Goolwa, South Australia. The Delegates were the Cittaslow President Roberto Angelucci (Mayor of Francavilla al Mare), the Cittaslow Vice President Stefano Mocio (Orvieto Mayor) and Pier Giorgio Oliveti the Cittaslow Director. They were accompanied by Mrs Iva Barbabella who prepared a traditional Umbrian meal as a thank you to the Mayor of Alexandrina, Kym McHugh.

Enjoying a traditional Australian barbecue at one of the Goolwa homes. They tasted mulloway, chicken, sausages and kangaroo accompanied by lots of homemade salads and sweets.

It is official. Goolwa can now fly the Cittaslow flag. Kym McHugh (Mayor of Alexandrina Council), Lyn Clark (Convenor, Goolwa Cittaslow), Teodoro Spiniello (Secretary General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Australia, Adelaide and translator), Mrs Iva Barbabella (Umbrian gastronomy professor and cook), Tommaso Coniglio (Italian Consul to South Australia), Pier Giorgio Oliveti (Cittaslow Director), Stefano Mocio (Cittaslow Vice President) Roberto Angelucci (Cittaslow President)

Cittaslow Goolwa supports the Goolwa Alive Street Festival by hosting local food and wine displays and tastings. This event is held on the Sunday of the October Labour Day long weekend each year.
